Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, Beauty and Fertility Aphrodite was born of the sea where the blood of Uranus had fallen. She emerged on the Isle of Cyprus and was received by the Seasons and brought before the assembly of the Gods. She was given in marraige to Hephaestus the lame and ugly God of the Forge who forged Zeus' thunderbolts. She was a laughter loving goddess with deadly destructive powers over men . She was described as a radiant light. Her symbols included the myrtle, the rose, the apple, the dove, the sparrow, the swan and fish.
