While it is true that many of the people evacuated to the Houston Astrodome were underprivileged, they were displaced from neighborhoods they had lived in for generations. Many of their families lived within "shouting distance." Most were employed, albeit making very low salaries. Many of them owned their homes. They had a past, a sense of life, memories and feelings and they were part of a people who have created a culture of arts, music and food that is recognized around the world. New Orleans was their home and who among us would not miss our home?
