Momma was set to arrive on the 12:46 from Louisville. It was her first trip to see us since we moved to the north. She was dead set against the move, but we had to do it. Jim's choice of career had made the decision for us. His calling was to spread the word of the Lord. He was a Bible salesman. Headquartered in Hoboken, N.J. So it was bound for the north that we were two years ago.
It has been that long since I last saw Momma. She protested our move so much that she refused to see her new born grandchild, Jesse, born last November. I know it killed her to miss that. But she had her pride.
Now she was coming to Hoboken.
I was late. I saw her from a distance. I don't think she saw me. Jesse started squirming in my arms. We had to break across that barrier.
Well, here goes.-Barbara Sheehan, adult
